School Day

Children can attend Morning Club from 8:00 a.m. for only £1. Breakfast is available for children who want it for an additional cost of £1. Children can choose from toast or a selection of cereal and a drink of squash.

School opens and learning begins at 8:45 a.m. If your child arrives between 8:45 am and 9:00 am, they will be marked as late on the register. If your child arrives after 9:00 am, when the registers are closed, then your child will be marked as an unauthorised absence, which will affect their attendance. Parents and guardians who bring children in after 9:00 am will be asked to sign a late sheet. This is to ensure all children are accounted for in case of a fire.

At 9:00 a.m. every day there is an assembly. Each assembly has a different theme depending on the day. Some assemblies are linked to special events.

Morning lessons begin at 9:20 a.m., following assembly, and continue until lunchtime. There is a 15-minute break from 10:15 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.

Lunchtime is for an hour each day from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m.

Afternoon lessons begin at 1:00 p.m. and finish at 3:10p.m. when the school day ends.

'Stop and Play' after-school club is available until 4:30 p.m. for only £4.

The school is open for 32.5 hours each week.

We believe that regular attendance is essential to getting a good education. Children need to be at school to learn. Persistent absence not only affects academic progress, but it can also lead to social isolation as the child may find it difficult to maintain friendships. Thwaites school is committed to working with parents to ensure that children attend both regularly and punctually.

Parents should ensure that, if their child is going to be absent from school for any unavoidable reason such as sickness, they contact the school on the first morning of absence. This can be done by telephone or email. The school should then be contacted every day following with an update until the child returns. If your child still needs to take prescribed medication on their return to school, you will need to fill in a medical form available from the school office.

Children who are collected from school to attend a health appointment must be signed out from the school office and a copy of the appointment card should be shown to the school's administrator.
