Welcome

It gives me great pride to introduce myself as the Headteacher of Thwaites School. It has been an ambition of mine, throughout my teaching career, to lead a small village school, and it is an honour to have been given the opportunity at Thwaites School. As your Headteacher, I am very excited to work alongside all stakeholders in the school to further develop the school’s ambitions, as well as continue to establish Thwaites School as a hub of Hallthwaites and the wider community.

Thwaites School has a fantastic team of school staff whose enthusiasm, dedication and energy in delivering the best school day possible aims to ensure all children’s needs are met on every level, every day. The children themselves demonstrate high expectations of themselves, not only academically, but also in their behaviour and attitude. A love of learning is evident throughout school. With a committed board of governors, who bring a wealth of experience, supporting the school in their goals and engaged parents and families working alongside us, Thwaites School is in an excellent position to grow and develop into the future.

As a school, it is our goal to provide the perfect learning environment to nurture and develop our children so that they are well-prepared for the world that awaits them. Our aim is to deliver our carefully planned curriculum that links perfectly with the local area, both its nature and community, as well as nationally and internationally, with educational experiences dedicated to specific curriculum areas as well as visitors, trips and residential stays to bolster learning and build character. Throughout the year, we hold special events to build stronger ties with the community and create long-lasting memories with our children, parents and wider community members.

We are a very welcoming school and are always ready to show the world what we have to offer. If you would like to visit and see this wonderful school for yourself, then please call the Thwaites School office and arrange a date and time.

Curriculum

Our bespoke curriculum, created by the teachers of Thwaites School, has been carefully and thoughtfully designed to enhance what our school has to offer as a village school set in stunning surroundings.

The curriculum is mapped out from Nursery to Year Six, ensuring knowledge and skills are built upon seamlessly to enable all children to achieve their very best through fun, exciting and memorable learning experiences.

To view our curriculum in full, visit the 'Curriculum' page under the 'Key Information' heading.

Community

At Thwaites School we are committed to building and developing strong community ties with members of the local community, local organisations, local businesses and local schools.

We believe a village school lies at the very heart of a village community, and we work hard to live up to that responsibility.

On our 'Community' page, located under the 'Latest News and Events' heading, we celebrate and promote our community ties. You can also find the most recent copy of 'Out and About' on this page, our local 'Newsletter for Millom Without Communities', which regularly includes a feature about Thwaites School.

Hard copies of this publication can also be picked up from the entrance of Thwaites School, free of charge.
